Day 48 - Camooweal - Mt Isa

Good morning Camooweal!

Although not such a great morning.  First of all we had great difficulty getting the caravan on the car and then when we finally did manage to achieve that - the lights on the caravan refused to work.  With no-one in town available to take a look at our issue (Camooweal's auto electrician was actually in Mt Isa for the day) we had no choice but to get to Mt Isa in the hope of a better chance of repairs there.  The one good thing was that the electric brakes were working on the van - the bad thing was the fridge wouldn't be working.  While I was waiting for Shane to contact the Camooweal repair guy I snapped a few photos of these magnificent birds hovering over head.

Finally on the road and starting to hit some really barren looking areas which might perhaps explain the existence of "car eating" cows in the area.  Thankfully we didn't see any - or even any cars that looked as though they might have been the victim of a car eating cow - but clearly it's a big enough problem for not just one but multiple signs being erected - with lights and solar panels!

We passed yet another big machine being transported to a mine somewhere.

The flat plains gave way again to even bigger hills and the road thankfully became more interesting with curves and some pretty decent scenery as we made our way into Mt Isa being very cautious about intersections and traffic lights knowing that there would be no warning if I had to stop suddenly.

We remembered seeing this sign the last time we were in Mt Isa - Good old Jac & Shaz from MKR having a massive board for themselves while down the bottom such icons as golfer Greg Norman, tennis star Pat Rafter, AFL player Simon Black, actress Deborah Mailman, NRL player Scott Prince and musician William Barton share a board the same size.  Apparently these days Jac has a clothing boutique and Shaz is a Thermomix consultant.  Words fail me!

We really didn't get to see anything of Mt Isa this time around.  Unfortunately the pressure of worrying about no lights sort of dimmed our excitement.  Shane put in a call to RACV who had the RACQ contact us.  Thankfully they sent someone who was able to pinpoint the issue - a fuse which had virtually melted into the socket that contained it - and he was able to point us in the direction of someone who could fix it.  By the time we contacted them and arranged it all it was mid afternoon.  We picked up a few groceries and the much needed replacement Anderson Plug and then Shane took the car back to the auto electrician who fixed the issue.  By the time Shane returned it was after 5.30pm and in actual fact we still didn't know for sure if the lights would work or not next morning.

We decided to forget about our troubles for the evening and settled back with a bottle of wine and chatted with our friendly neighbours for a while before retiring for the night very tired.
