Day 53 - Townsville

Good morning Townsville!

We really loved this park the last time we were here and it still is fantastic - perhaps even better now that it's a little quieter.  Last time we caught it on the end of the peak season whereas we are a few weeks behind that time this year and the sites have thinned out considerably and far less children as well.  We love the gardens dividing every second site and even with a neighbour beside you it is still quite private with plants screening off the site.  And the huge palm tree plantings along the back of the sites provide fantastic shade throughout the day keeping the van cool.  The gardens in general are really lovely and the pool/playground area very inviting.  I was speaking with one of the park grounds employees while taking a few photos and he expressed the frustration of trying to keep up with the watering, and then of course the recent flooding, saying if it's not enough water then it's too much.  There is also a massive amount of work going on to extend the playground/water park area as well.  You can certainly tell a lot of pride and hard work is going into making the stay here more enjoyable for everyone.

And yes there was more washing to do.  Little Teresa Twintub is doing a fantastic job and has already saved us hundreds of dollars in washing costs so she has well and truly paid for herself - but the reality is it takes a lot longer than just doing a full load in the washer at home at 8kg as against TT's 2kg limit.  Also there is the consideration of how much drying space you have too.  We've had too many things go missing on public washing lines over the years so I'm hesitant to use them.

As we were going about hanging out washing etc a gentleman from the caravan next door asked Shane if he knew a John Powell as Shane reminded him of the John he knew.  Turns out the gentleman was actually Shane's cousin from Swan Hill.  What a small world we live in really!  So we spent some time chatting about the various family connections.

Having all of the home duties out of the way and after a quick bite to eat for lunch we headed out to visit Shane's brother Joe and partner Janine for the afternoon and ended up sharing a lovely meal with them.  It was almost 11.00pm when we finally got back to the van.
