Day 32 - Adelaide River - Darwin

Good morning Adelaide River!

ARSS put on a show for us this morning..... Oh wait - I probably should explain that one.  ARSS stands for Adelaide River Show Society and they really embrace it - there is a big metal ARSS above the gate and at one time they even had a courtesy bus which would take you to the local pub and as was quoted on the back of the bus - "We'll get your ARSS home safely".

So as I was saying - we woke this morning to thick fog but it certainly was pretty when the sun started to come through.

With less than 100km to Darwin from here it was a pretty short trip and nothing much to write home (or blog) about along the way.  We did see this truck as we pulled out of Adelaide River.  The banged up 4wd is a reminder that things don't always go to plan on trips but the whole truck was covered in red dust.

As we got closer to Darwin we were suddenly on dual highway and sign after sign advertising businesses, caravan parks and all manner of things started to appear.  It's so strange after being so remote to see these things again - even if Darwin is smaller than Geelong - it's feels like big city again.

On arrival at Howard Springs Caravan Park we were a bit concerned about the site we'd been given however the guy guiding us into place parked us on an angle to make the most of what shade we would have for the day.  Actually it's a really good site and we have quite a bit of space beside us and don't have to look out over other campers.  The only down side is the nearby dump point and being opposite the jumping pillow.  These are minor distractions though as there is no smell, the park isn't THAT busy so not that many visits to it and given it isn't school holidays there really aren't a lot of children here bouncing on the pillow.

After getting ourselves set up we took a drive to replenish a few groceries and came back to a nice chicken & salad dinner.  It's been hot though - at one stage a bit too hot to be sitting outside, but once the sun went down it was just a balmy warm night.  I had the bright suggestion that we should go and dangle our legs in the pool at about 9.00pm because there was no-one there and the water was beautiful - so there the three of us sat for over an hour chatting even getting a visit from a curious possum to see if we had any offerings.  Unfortunately we had neither the food nor the camera to capture the moment.  Maybe tomorrow.

106 km
Total - 5,359 km
Top today 32°c - expecting overnight 19°c
